Situated on the Udaipur – Jodhpur highway, Ranakpur Rajasthan is a picturesque and religiously rich valley nestled amidst the great Aravalies. The journey from the well-known City of Lakes to the lesser-known district of Ranakpur brings forth some quintessential Rajasthani visuals. The landscape changes dramatically, taking you from planes to the belly of the mountain through wide and narrow roads that are surrounded by yellow and brown hills.

Ranakpur ka Ghata (the Valley of Ranakpur) begins from the Rupad Mata ka Mandir and is picturesque in the true sense. Rocky hills, huge trees, little streams, mischievous Langoors (monkeys) on the way, and the S-shaped roads all along make for a wonderful trip. Nature comes in abundance here, only it is in shades of brown, yellow and red instead of green. The forests along the way are home to wild animals, making it dangerous to travel by after dark, as they often tread downhill to stream flowing below.

Ninety kilometers from Udaipur, one reaches the world-renowned Ranakpur Jain Temple, the biggest attraction this region is known for. This Jain Teerth or shrine is one of the most important pilgrimages amongst five Jains in India. Owing to its significant history and beauty, it is extremely popular and buses full of pilgrims and tourists arrive at the temple daily.
