Kumbhalgarh- Where History meets Adventure!
Kumbhalgarh Fort is one of the oldest and most famous hill forts in Rajasthan, flanked by breathtaking views of the Aravalli hills on three sides and the golden dunes of the Thar Desert on the other. It derived its name from Rana Kumbha who had this massive fort built in the 15th century. Declared a World Heritage Site in 2013, it is a striking Mewar fortress renowned as an exemplar of the Rajput militia’s shrewdness in their architectural mettle. Impregnable due to its rugged terrain and steep climbs, it’s also the highest fort in Rajasthan at 1075 meters, with walls 15 feet thick. History is witness to how invaders failed to capture this magnificent citadel with 7 fortified gates. It is famous as the birthplace of Maharana Pratap and the world’s second-longest man-made wall, after the Great Wall of China, with its walls extending up to 36km. The spectacular view from the apex Badal Mahal is priceless, a palace built in the 19th century.
Visitors are enamored by tales of Rajputana bravado and guerilla warfare. Though the fort no longer holds all the 360 temples that stood here, there are 2 ancient Jain temples before the fort’s entrance. It is approximately 80kms from many of the best resorts near Udaipur. The scenic drive to Ranakpur takes about 2 hours even though the distance is only 50km; as the roads wind down through hills and jungles. Staycations manicured by the hotels in Kumbhalgarh offer exciting Jungle Safaris in jeeps and also take you for early morning treks to sunrise points in the forests. Since the fort is a part of the vast Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary it’s home to a variety of flora and fauna. With outstanding views of the Kumbhalgarh Fort, the Lakhela Lagoon, and the Aravalli hills this hotel aims to give you a royal welcome. Total of 84 rooms in all; they have the standard twin, premier rooms, and deluxe rooms; but it’s the Pool Villa that is extravagant and stay-worthy. This villa has a private pool with a patio attached to the room that overlooks the lake and hills, giving you space for discreet relaxation. Plan a romantic escapade here and the hotel will help to deliver tailor-made rendezvous for couples.
On the other side of the residential building is a wide green garden in which children can play. Their restaurant is large with windows for natural light to seep in. With a 94 person cover, this pure vegetarian multi-cuisine haunt is called Panghat. Their coffee shop has space for up to 30 persons. On their website, one can find details of how they can cater to events for a fine destination wedding in Rajashthan. It is 3.3 km from the Kumbhalgarh Fort, 35 km from the Ranakpur Jain Temple, and 45km to Nathdwara.

This lakeshore property was initially a Ramada Hotel. On the outlook of it, the Google search for the hotel introduced tags of ‘Top Rated’ and ‘Great Location’; and it has an overall rating of 4.6 out of 5 on Google Reviews. Among all the reviews that were researched, Raajsa Resort has been mentioned often for its impeccable service. But there is no mention of Covid protocols and Sanitisation measures on the hotel website, Google Overview page, and Tripadvisor page. We strictly recommend you to find out all the measures taken up by the hotel for your safety, including RT-CPR tests before arrival.
The most obvious drawback being, there is no fitness or wellness center for the adults and no recreational room for children’s activities. Many Ranakpur hotels, like Mana Hotel, have ensured complete guest satisfaction by maintaining these facilities. MakeMyTrip website claims Raajsa Resort has an in-house Spa, but there is no mention of the same on other major sites and the hotel website.
Since it has a large number of rooms, it can host a massive wedding party. One banquet hall has an area of approx. 6,000 sq ft, while the other two are 2,000 sq ft each. The garden is 43,000 sq ft and can easily host one main event. Their dining area will also help maintain social distancing as it has a wide capacity. But keep in mind, the restaurant sounds good for vegans only, if you are a meat lover then there is no non-vegetarian food available here. They do serve tasty Jain food for sure.
Lastly, this is not a pet-friendly hotel and there is no mention of it having disabled persons access, the latter being a mindful necessity.

Plan a summer getaway in a Kumbhalgarh resort, as the weather in Kumbhalgarh is ideal with a pleasant 35 degrees maintained in the peak summer months because it is surrounded by the Aravalli hills, the Lakhela Lake, and the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary. Via Lakhela is supported by the beautiful fauna and flora of the Lakhela Lake, a white contemporary structure in contrast to the heritage of Mewar that it dwells in. The hotel is about 5.3 km from the historical fort. It supports a total of 124 rooms, and you can choose between the suites, deluxe rooms, and super deluxe rooms with a small pool. The restaurant’s chef prepares meals using fresh produce that is organic and healthy; their coffee lounge has delightful sights of the landscape. The hotel also provides spa and salon services that can help you to unwind.

The hotel tries its best to present an affable modern outlook, but it disenchants. The location is mesmerizing, but this place could do with some serious eco-friendly contemporary redesigning to ensure a minimal carbon footprint to preserve the delicate biodiversity around it and stand out amongst the plethora of hotels in Kumbhalgarh. Their pool and deck are blessed to have fantastic views of the valley serenading its charm. Most of the rooms have private balconies that allow you to wake up to this captivating scenery. The super deluxe rooms are poorly planned, as they have wooden flooring with a plunge pool on a mezze plane within the room. There is bound to be a slippery floor around this mini-pool that can be hazardous if you have kids accompanying. We suggest you book the suites for a more comfortable stay. The hotel’s recreational room seems well stocked with table tennis equipment, indoor board games, and carrom board among others.
The hotel has plenty of rooms for any large-scale event but it lacks the sophistication that most people prefer for their destination wedding goals. Yet their 26,000 sq ft lawn and two banquets of 5,000 sq ft and 2,500 sqft can make preparations bearable in the hands of an experienced wedding planner. We suggest this site is more suited for corporate events and conferences. The hotel does not allow pets, so best to leave your pooches at home.
Overall, nothing exquisite here. If you’re looking for a royal heritage experience that most resorts in Rajasthan are famous for, then this place runs short of expectations.

It is advised to ensure that every hotel has taken necessary measures for Covid protocol and safety before you plan your stay. Luckily, they have updated their safety measures only on their Tripadvisor Page. The hotel has received the 2020 Traveller’s Choice Laurels and is rated as the 6th best place to stay in Kumbhalgarh. It has an overall reviewer rating of 4.5 but has received a Hotel Class of only 3 stars.

Nature’s bounty can be witnessed in this beautiful Kumbhalgarh hill resort situated at 11,000 feet above sea level and spread over 11 acres. Adjacent to the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary, it is surrounded by the Aravalli hills and the forest reserve’s vegetation. There are a total of 37 luxurious cottages with patios or balconies; 4 of them being courtyard villas and 2 villas equipped with a pool that opens up to the picturesque view of the Kumbhalgarh hills and valleys. There is a summer sensibility about the architecture of this place with its red-tiled roofs, grey stone buildings, and abundant green spaces that children would love to play in. The restaurant is well ventilated with windows all around and a terrace extension that allows you to soak in the mountain views from inside as well as outside. It has an 80 person seating capacity. A bar out on an open deck invites you to chill with friends and catch up on old times. The lagoon-shaped pool looks inviting and has a small kids pool attached to it. Walking around this huge property is an exercise itself, a track that lets you explore the beauty of this place.
The hotel’s website details a list of adventure activities for the guests to enjoy, like Trekking on unknown trails to explore the countryside giving you an adrenaline rush, and the Jungle Safaris that allow you to discover wild animals in the wilderness of the Kumbhalgarh Sanctuary and Forest Reserve. It is about 4kms away from the fort and 40kms from NH58. Kumbhalgarh temperatures do peak to about 1 to 3 degrees on a winter night but most hotels in Rajasthan can arrange for a bonfire in their fire pits to keep you warm while you roast marshmallows, including this one.

Honestly, this is the best setting for a staycation because of the low-key vibe it has. With an atmosphere for a couples’ getaway and family vacations, this hotel can play host to weddings as well. Since there aren’t many rooms, the hotel is most comfortable for a smaller wedding party. Mindfully made the pool villas are recommended over the normal cottages; as vacations are rare in post-covid times so it’s better to make the most of one’s stay when the chance arrives. But there should have been more than just a pair of pool villas, as they won’t suffice if there is a large group of couples travelling together. Some rooms have large tubs in the bathrooms with the Aravalli view; this can be perfect if all you want is privacy. The mustard-coloured Jodhpur stone flooring in the rooms is adorable; also it is cleaner than a carpeted floor and lends a tasteful touch to the otherwise ordinary tiled flooring. Bathrooms look well done and contemporary. All in all, it checks most of the priorities travellers have.
Walking around the property can be hard for those that are elderly or with comorbidities, due to its uphill and downhill terrain and the cottages being spread out unevenly. Best to check if they have golf carts for people with health issues.
There is no mention of a spa or fitness center on the hotel’s website. If the hotel would accept a humble word of advice, I would recommend that they pave way for these two essentials that the best hotels near Kumbhalgarh Fort offer. Mahua Bagh Resort is a laid-back, calm, and serene resort yet it must support the vacation spirit. Offering rejuvenation of the mind and body would be the icing on the cake for this place.
The place does not allow pets. Google Overview mentions they have a Kids’ Club and even have bicycles for hire; this can be a great way to relax for children if there is proper supervision available.

Give your lungs the health benefit of refreshing mountain air with a vacation in this tent-style property. There are a total of 27 camp rooms set up on a hill slope facing the lake, with small fort-like walls surrounding the hillside’s main passages. The stunning highlight is the swimming pool here that is surrounded by plenty of flora and a 4,000 sq ft lakefront garden on one side. This is a lake view resort in Kumbhalgarh that will engage you with nature, as there is greenery everywhere you look. Wake up to the sight of a cloud cover over the Aravalli hills, a most rustic experience that will recharge you every morning. The rooms are fitted with beds and basic amenities, the bathrooms are petite. The floor is tiled, the walls are made of concrete, and there is a tent-style fabric on the ceiling inside all the rooms, to give you the primal experience of Kumbhalgarh camping.
They have an indoor camp-style restaurant too but you can enjoy eating in the garden vicinity if the weather permits. The hotel website mentions they can arrange for brunch on boat rides while you soak in the aura of the lagoon. They even organize camel and horse rides for the guests. The hotel has a conference hall of 3,000 sq ft for parties and corporate events.

Frankly, the tents are not elite Swiss-style camps, they are basic ones that one can manage with if you aren’t uptight. The beds don’t look comfortable and all the furniture is ordinary. Bathrooms aren’t spacious and are unattractive, in fact, the pictures available online show that there is hardly any air outlet; and the shower, WC, and sink are packed tightly. It is a suffocated setup that will surely discontent many a visitor; there is no luxury here. It has the energy of an authentic camp but the management can do better, as the rooms crave a facelift. It is for the easy-going and no-fuss traveller. Not sure if this would be preferred by those who travel with smaller kids.
Breakfast is not free here according to Google’s overview of their amenities. This is a huge letdown, as this is one complimentary meal that all resorts near Kumbhalgarh Fort and hotels in Ranakpur offer. There is a cute Tapri that serves steaming Indian chai as a high tea provision for the guests. Legitimate in its outback identity, this place has no fitness center. Its Google page does mention a Spa though there are no pictures available online to authenticate its validity.
This place lacks the basic infrastructure to host a wedding. Even though it has a conference hall and a garden for events, the tent-style rooms would do no justice to those who wish to celebrate nuptials lavishly. This is a camper’s relaxed holiday site. Their Tripadvisor page mentions they allow pets, but Google doesn’t mention the same.
Their home site mentions no precautions taken up by the hotel to manage covid protocols, though the same is updated on their Tripadvisor page. The guest must always ensure that the basic covid measures are taken up by the hotel before booking a stay.

Situated 1,100 meters above sea level this property is built on a hilltop and is a branch of the Fatehgarh Hotel in Ranakpur. It has received recognition in the Conde Nast Traveller 2015 as part of the 25 Boutique Hotels of Rajasthan. Witness the Rajasthani architecture in the stone embrasures on both sides of the road as you drive up to this building. A stone’s throw away from the sanctuary, the swimming pool here opens up to a charming valley view, where the sunsets and sunrises are incredible. There is a deck near the pool, that allows you to dine in the open, and a garden where one can lay down to read a book. At night this manor gleams bright with its lights under a sky full of stars; reposing a statesman-like culture in its calm ambiance. Only green hills can be seen as far as the eye can see from the terrace that has seating available.
Small and large pieces of collected art scattered all over the hotel, some modern and some antique, will capture your attention. A rectangular courtyard open to the sky outside the rooms is a harbinger of fresh air and sunlight amid the hotel. Elegant, minimal, and yet crafty; all its 15 rooms are designed unidentical. The lodges are humble and sweet, while the suites are spacious with fantastic views. Most of the rooms have balconies, all of them have marbled floors. Bathrooms are neat and well-done with a hint of subtlety.
The hotel offers jungle safaris, bird watching, trekking among other activities here. From the pictures available online it is observed they have a snooker table for guests to play.

This place lacks a larger green space and banquet halls for large-scale weddings, also their dining area is intimate. Its 15 rooms will restrain any mega event. The hotel is meant exclusively for holidays or some special occasions’ celebration. The rooms are all contemporary yet homely in their appeal. The upholstery used in the rooms is pretty and refreshing, the furniture too has been carefully selected for a cosy vibe. Unlike typical hotels, this place gives a home away from home feel. I would recommend booking the suites if it suits your budget; the lodge rooms can seem stiffly compact if one is on the move with their immediate family.
This property is well-secluded from others and perched at a scenic spot. They have built a small pond at the edge of the garden home to beautiful lilies. There is no spa, no fitness center, and no conference halls here mentioned on the Hotel website and Google overview page. Built as high as the Kumbhalgarh Fort, enjoy coming here purely for relaxation, cut away from the hectic urban life.
