Top 5 #Winter #Holiday Destinations in #India

Winter is here, but that doesn’t mean that you have to spend the season buried in your blankets in front of your TV with your heater on. There are a lot of Indian destinations that are at their best in this season.

The destinations given below have been selected carefully. A lot of other holiday hotspots are simply too cold or have attractions that are only relevant in the warmer months. The options mentioned below let you be out and about enjoying the weather and the sun.

Goa

Goa is the first word that comes to mind as the festive December season approaches. It is, in a metaphorical sense, the hottest place in India. Nightclubs, music, a vibrant exciting nightlife and unlimited excitement at every corner, is what Goa offers. For those interested in culture and heritage, some of India’s finest churches are located here. Also, Christmas is the best time to visit Goa as there is a feeling of warmth and cheer in the air. With all the classic delights of Christmas (singing carols, Midnight Mass and the winter delicacies), Goa is a must-visit on the 25th of December. And if you can stick around for 6 days, there’s the New Years to celebrate too!

Kerala

Kerala’s five interlinked lakes are its hottest asset when it comes to pulling-in tourists. These are its backwaters, and cover almost half of the state. That means 1900 kms of water, giving you the kind of peace and tranquility that you’ll need when you come back to the concrete city life. The ayurvedic massages, yoga and other attractions are a great alternative to the other more noisy options that other winter destinations offer.

Pondicherry

Another great option, if you’re looking for serenity, is Pondicherry. It is only three hours away from Chennai. The French quarters here are worth exploring. Photographers take delight in the beautiful yellow and orange colonial townhouses, and the almost pristine roads that are spic and span. The cobbled streets and the sea bordering the road makes it seem like you’re walking by a European coastline.

Auli

India’s most happening skiing destination sees thousands visiting just to ski down the Himalayas, year after year. There’s also the thrill of trekking up to Nanda Devi, India’s highest peak. Since you are in Uttarakhand, there are many other winter adventure activities you can pursue, such as hiking. And, there are many hill stations nearby if you want to rest after a thrilling few days. Its proximity to North India, as well as convenient air, train and bus connectivity which makes this area great for a quick getaway.

Havelock, Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Havelock in Andaman & Nicobar Islands is one of the lesser known destinations, which means you should visit when it still isn’t as crowded. There are pristine beaches, sparkling clear water, and the Asia’s best diving locations to explore. The island itself is so beautiful that many stay here instead of roaming around and exploring other spots during their brief vacations.
