Fairs in Rajasthan are celebrated to commemorate the brave deeds of medieval heroes. These festivals are perfect occasion to experience dance, music, tradition and culture of Rajasthan. Few such festivals are mentioned below:

When: 17 Oct – 21 Oct
The Rajasthan International Folk Festival showcases the vitality and energy of Rajasthani culture with live performances in the stunning surroundings of Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort. Vocal recitals, folk mornings, dawn and sunset devotional concerts complete the performance schedule.

The huge Mehrangarh Fort stands 400 feet above the skyline of Jodhpur and is a truly breathtaking festival setting. It includes performances by master musicians from local Rajasthan communities, sensational headline acts showcased each night on the main stage, cutting-edge global dance grooves, jazz and gypsy dance that will keep the party going late into the night. Interactive daytime sessions for visitors, school children and families are staged against the breathtaking backdrop of the Fort.

More than 150 performers from Rajasthan, India and the world will perform in the fest. It is a four nights and three days of events under the brightest full moon of the year, known as Sharad Poornima, and traditionally a time of festivities in Jodhpur.

The Matasya Festival is one of the important festivals of Alwar, Rajasthan. This popular festival is known for its cultural and social heritage, fairs, and colorful customs. To experience the real values of the festival varieties of exhibitions, competitions, sports, folk music, songs and dances folk performances, and shehnai recitals are performed during the festival.

The festival is celebrated for two days with utmost fun and enthusiasm. People from all over Rajasthan as well as outside come to attend this unique festival in Alwar. An exhibition on the archaeological heritage of the city, a sightseeing tour, a one-hour slide show on the important monuments, trekking, and a race of paddle boats is major highlights of the festival.

When: 16 Oct – 18 Oct
The Marwar Festival, a festival devoted to the music and dance of the Marwar region, is held in memory of the heroes of Rajasthan in Jodhpur. The festival was originally known as Maand Festival. Held for two days on a full moon – sharad Purnima, folk dancers assembled here, perform with gusto and entertain the audience with Rajasthani folklore.

They bring to life the myth and legends of the area and sing songs in memory of the brave heroes. Other attractions of the festival include horse riding and horse polo. Various other competitions are also held during the festival.

When: 5 Oct – 3 Nov
India’s biggest shopping festival returns for the second year this year, and it’s going to be huge! The Jaipur Shopping Festival will run for a month in the lead up to Diwali and feature more than 7,000 of the city’s retailers from its most renowned markets. The Craft Bazaar will showcase top quality handicrafts from national and local artisans as well. The festival isn’t restricted to shopping though. In addition, there will be entertainment including plays, music, folk dancing, folk singing, photography competition, polo, fashion shows, and fireworks!

Known as the Worship of the Horse, this unique Rajasthani festival is grandly celebrated by the Mewar royal family of Udaipur on the last day of Navaratri. It honors the special relationship between warrior and horse. See the royal horses being worshiped by the current head of the royal family, accompanied by the palace band. A highlight of the festival is the mouthwatering Rajasthani cuisine.
