Come winters we city folks prefer spending our days soaking up the sun. Too cold for a trip to the mountains, this is the ideal time to visit Jaisalmer; where the sun offers a familial warmth and at night, the twinkling skies surrender their candour to the cool air. Jaisalmer is an oasis that outshines the barren sands that surround it. This list of 5 hotels in Jaisalmer will be perfect for your next holiday without making a hole in your wallet!
And while India’s ‘Golden City’ has inspired many Bollywood movies, it can spruce up your social media pages with its likability.
Upon searching online for places to see in Jaisalmer we found Jaisalmer Fort as the top-rated attraction; a UNESCO Heritage Site also called the ‘Living Fort’. Unlike most uninhabited forts in Rajasthan that serve as daytime attractions, Jaisalmer’s enormous fortress is alive and pulsating with the city’s beats 24/7; thriving with artisans, tourists, pilgrims and residents. Apart from this, you can visit the Longewala War Memorial; the centuries-old Jain temples; take a trip back in time at the Badal Palace and Patwon ki Haveli; lounge near the Gadisar Lake or explore the wilderness at the National Park. The abandoned and spooky ruins at Kuldhara Village have a sad backstory while the chhatri cenotaphs at Bara Bagh remember long-lost royals. A must visit is the Gyaan Centre, an architectural marvel in the middle of the desert; an effort to educate and emancipate girls of lesser privileged backgrounds in this district.
Jaisalmer is approximately 303km from Jodhpur and 600km from Jaipur. Along with the best hotels in Rajasthan, the city has a repertoire of budget-friendly boutique hotels in Rajasthan. For a countryside experience, one can lodge in the desert camps; they offer dance and revelry through the night courtesy of the tribal gypsies native to this arid landscape. Here are our recommendations for luxurious and affordable top 5 places to stay in Jaisalmer:
1. WelcomHeritage Mohangarh Fort

The property validates the royal treatment it serves with its princely decor. There are 9 standard rooms, 3 Golden Suites; 4 deluxe rooms and 2 Maharaja Suites (former chambers of the royal family). An amalgamation of traditional decor and contemporary amenities has been artistically blended in this young twentieth-century fort. Part of the heritage hotels in Rajasthan, its location is further away from things to do in Jaisalmer. Keeping in mind its seclusion from the busy city centre, it allows one to practice the Covid mandated physical distancing while travelling.

They have a spa, yoga and meditation room. They offer assistance for desert jeep safaris, folk dance performances, camel cart rides, birdwatching, temple visits and other sightseeing activities; recreations that a majority of hotels in Rajasthan offer. While staying here you can visit the Armoury Room, Sunset Point, and take a complimentary tour of the Fort. Their restaurant Zayka offers the traditional Rajasthani favourites as well as continental delicacies; dine indoors or in the open-air courtyard that is an extension of this restaurant. The hotel does not have a designated bar. With a limited capacity of 18 rooms, it can cater to an intimate destination wedding in one of the best resorts in Rajasthan. The hotel can arrange conferences or social gatherings for up to 52 people but the hotel lacks a proper facility for driver’s dorms.

3. Sonaar Haveli
Address: Ramgarh Rd, Ram Kund, Kishan Ghat, Rajasthan 345001
Distance: 15km to Jaisalmer Airport, 3km to Jaisalmer Railway Station
Similar to smaller luxury hotels in Rajasthan, this property offers a boutique stay with unique interiors. Operational since January 2015, the property is well-maintained and is within walking distance from the local attractions, Vyas Ki Chatri, and Government Museum. Quaint yet packs a sweet punch, all of the 8 rooms have a minimalist pastel decor which is appealing as there is no overcrowding of artefacts or showpieces. 4 rooms have double beds and the rest have twin beds; their wallpapered walls are white with monochrome floral details of the Kikar tree printed on them. Though modest in size, the rooms have stone flooring and a serene palette. Despite a plethora of facilities being offered by the best resorts in Rajasthan, they somehow pale in comparison to the homely elegance of Sonaar Haveli.
- Free Wifi
- Free Breakfast
- Free Parking
- 2 Restaurants
- No Pool
- No Pets
- Horse Riding
Not recommended for a large destination wedding, but it is ideal for a family’s staycation to explore Jaisalmer. The only drawback is that they do not have a swimming pool, but this facility is rarely required in the winters. The spa is non-operational post-pandemic. The indoor dining hall has a bright and opulent theme, and the outdoor restaurant offers top-notch sunset views of the Jaisalmer Palace and Fort that is 1.9km away. Stylishly agreeable and intimate in appeal, it is one of the best hotels in Rajasthan that offers budget-friendly luxury. Along with tours of the city and horse-riding, they can arrange a night camp in the wilderness on the Sam dunes. Children up to 5 years of age stay complimentary.

Some of the best resorts in Rajasthan have not earned such rave reviews and rankings from guests as Sonaar has. Address: Near Fort Parking, Dhibba Para, Amar Sagar Pol, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan 345001
Distance: 13.3km to Jaisalmer Airport, 1.2km to Jaisalmer Railway Station
A stone’s throw away from the Jaisalmer Fort, this establishment can be categorised in the small boutique hotels in Rajasthan. Pet owners will love this pocket-friendly staycation hotel as it allows pets to stay for free. Though it lacks the massive infrastructure that the best resorts in Rajasthan have, 1st Gate Fusion offers a home away from home leisure stay to all its guests since 2014. Their Indian-Italian fusion pure vegetarian restaurant on the rooftop offers enticing views of the Jaisalmer Fort. They have non-smoking rooms, an indoor pool and a fitness room with equipment. As a novelty, it is one of its kind hotels in Rajasthan; a local effort to deliver unfiltered Rajasthani adventure.
- Indoor Pool
- Free Breakfast
- Free Wifi
- Fitness Centre
- Pets Allowed
A relaxed and warm vibe flows in the property. Not equipped for a large wedding party as it has no banquets and only 10 rooms, including 1 signature suite, 2 executive suites (each with balcony) and 7 deluxe rooms. But it is perfect for a couple’s romantic getaway or even an extended family staycation as the rooms are well-furnished, with wooden flooring and fitted with all modern amenities. However, the spa is not operational post-pandemic. Covid has affected the small businesses in a severe manner and more than the large multinational hotels in Rajasthan. As an effort towards responsible tourism, we encourage our readers to stay in local hotels in Rajasthan as they strive to make sure your stay is comfortable while empowering the native community that works for them.

5. Mamas Resort and Camp
Address: Village Khuri Khuri Sand Dunes Jaisalmer (Rajasthan) 345034
Distance: 45km to Jaisalmer Airport and 47km to Jaisalmer Railway Station
No trip can be complete to Rajasthan’s desert without a night out in the camps. There are two famous desert dunes in Jaisalmer, the Sam dunes and the Khuri Khuri dunes. Mamas Resort and Camp is located in the Khuri side, this is the less crowded, isolated and quiet desert area; akin to South Goa in comparison to North Goa’s busy party scene. Mamas Camp has found a reference in the luxury camp resorts in Rajasthan. They also have 10 cottages available for those guests who don’t wish to stay out in tents. Their 10 Swiss luxury tents offer a rustic experience of the outback and this provincial thrill cannot be tasted in the lavish yet best resorts in Rajasthan. Mamas are pet-friendly and also offer a complimentary stay for children up to 5 years of age. They are working on a spa facility for their guests in the upcoming year 2022, a facility seen in numerous resorts in Rajasthan.
- Free Wifi
- Free Breakfast and Dinner
- Outdoor Pool
- Plunge Pool in Cottage
- Pet Friendly
- Outdoor games
- Parasailing facility on dunes
- Camel Rides
The Swiss luxury tent is divided into 3 sections, it has a verandah with chairs, a bathroom and a bedroom. However, there are no televisions in the tents due to the sensitive terrain’s need for noise prevention. Both the tents and cottages offer accommodation for a maximum of 3 people in each. An intimate wedding gathering can be accommodated here yet there is no designated hall or banquet for social events. This is suitable for a multigenerational vacation, as they offer complimentary evening cultural programmes from October to February along with camel rides and other outdoor games. They can arrange a bonfire in the evenings along with stargazing. Desert parasailing activities and jeep safaris are chargeable. Upon speaking to the manager, we found that breakfast and dinner are included in the package due to the remote location of many such resorts in Rajasthan.
